Return to Sea

thomas_newton I picked this up on the strength of a cover of The Sea Nymphs' 'Mirmaid's Purse'. This album channels the same briny spirit as that band. Accordions yawn and ukes twang in amorphous, largely drumless environments, with proceedings as likely to suddenly give way to bubbling bass guitar and skittering keyboard eddies as theremin and melodica-led parp-scapes. Favorite track: A Swirly Swoop Regroups.

SP All killer, no filler. Pure start-to-finish trip. Favorite track: A Swirly Swoop Regroups.

masonwheatley1994 Beautiful work from Six Flying Whales. so many amazing ideas jam packed into each song. This album is what I imagine that alter ego band at the end of Fairy Mary Mag would make if they got lost at sea. splendid. Favorite track: Echolocation.

about

Expect rain, birds, sinister mallet-wielding gnomes, angels on flutes, little choruses of fairies, thunderous reeds, frogs croaking in rhythm,
bones rattling, boats rocking, ships sinking, a titan coming to life, fangs and fins, soldiers dropping weapons, an industry-man
hunting for blubber, reflective meditative moments, reassembly, healing, the sky ripping open temporarily, rituals, the end of an era.
